It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Mr. George
Combs as the new branch manager of Local History/Special Collections. For
the last twelve years, George has been one of the staff that has not only
provided excellent customer service to those patrons in Lloyd House but
continued that same excellence when the division moved to the Barrett
Branch.

Working his way up from the Archives Intern to Library Assistant to
Division Supervisor, he is familiar with all facets of the wonderful
collection, the patrons, and their needs.  A real builder of partnerships,
George has an excellent working relationship with other city agencies, the
Friends of Local History, various civic organizations, and the National
Park Service.

He currently serves on the Executive Board of the Northern Virginia
Association for History and the Alexandria Historical Society.

He has a Masters of Science in Library Science from the Catholic University
of America (concentration in Archives), and Bachelors of Arts in History
from Western Connecticut State University.
