Drysdale Parish was formed by an Act of the General Assembly in 1723 when
St. Stephen's Parish in King and Queen County was divided. It was
frequently described as lying in King and Queen and Caroline Counties until
around 1780. Only an insignificant portion of the parish was ever included
in Caroline.

The boundaries were:

On the northeast - the Essex County line
On the southwest - the Mattaponi River
On the northwest - the line of St. Asaph's Parish
On the southeast - the line dividing King and Queen County from St.
Stephen's Parish.

The Council of the Diocese of Virginia on 25 January 1967 adopted a number
of changes involving certain parishes - including Drysdale. It was reunited
with St. Stephen's Parish. Stratton Major Parish, also in King and Queen,
was likewise reunited at this time with St. Stephen's. The parish then
became known as St. Stephen's-with-Stratton Major and Drysdale Parish.
