I have been submitting e-mails recently trying to find out more about a William HODGES b. in Goochland Co., VA ~ 1734 to Welcome William HODGES and Ann TURNER (d/o James TURNER), who lived within a few miles of the Louisa Co. line. William (later known as SR.) buys property right across the County line in Louisa in 1769 (Attonce).

Welcome William's Son William,SR., marries Elizabeth COCKE in 1774 in Goochland, and goes back home with her to Attonce in Louisa to raise a family. A William shows up in 1794 in Goochland's PPT listings. A year later William HODGES, JR., s/o William SR. of Louisa (in the register), marries an Elizabeth COCKE in Goochland in 1795. Since there are several William HODGES in Goochland at that time I don't know for sure if the one that appears on the PPT listings is William JR., but it is just one year before the marriage takes place as I just said. This Elizabeth COCKE is the niece of William JR.'s Mother Elizabeth COCKE.

There are two William HODGES born in Goochland about the same time. One is the s/o John HODGES and his Wife Ann JOHNSON(?) in ~ 1733. The one I believe is mine, is William the s/o Welcome William. There is also another HODGES, Edmund, that is having Children in Goochland about this time (he has no William's that I know of). There are at least three more William HODGES in Goochland in the late 1790s and early 1800s that may belong to John or Edmund's descendants. If I can determine who they are it might make it easier for me to assume the one that shows up in 1794 is William JR. who marries Elizabeth COCKE.

In Louisa in 1823 there is a William S.(Samuel?) HODGES that appears in the PPT listings. This is my GGGG Grandfather. This is the first time I find William S. anywhere.  A year later a William HODGES, JR. shows up about the same time a William HODGES disappears from Goochland. I am thinking William JR. is coming back across the border with his Son to Louisa. Of course this could be another of the William HODGES in Goochland or from anywhere.
