A few weeks ago we had some comments on this problem. I have just now
stumbled across an example that I had forgotten about. In Orange County
Deed Book 20 (1791-1795), page 101, where the county clerk was copying
from an original will the names of the people who witnessed it, he had
to guess at the second name:
 
"Jacob Snuckler or something else I dont no what nor dont care"
