My point really has nothing to do with SMGF as much as it has to do with Y
and MTDNA testing. Again it’s all about testing SNPs to get the best
information. To find close ancestry a person needs to do an admixture test,
or least a 37 marker Y DNA test or advanced MTDNA testing especially if the
person you match does not carry your same surnames. The 28 marker test that
SMGF is not very definitive especially if the male belongs to a very common
haplogroup like R1b or I and their subclades. My MTDNA haplogroup is H3 and
I have over 1000 matches on FTDNA. Those matches mean very little.

As for having a gedcom uploaded that can be done on Gedmatch as well as
Ysearch and Mitosearch.

I am sorry that I did not give a better explanation of why I use smgf.org.
I only use smgf.org for research purposes. The Family Tree DNA search
engines: YSearch.org or MitoSearch.org, do not provide a family tree for the
participant. Their search results, usually provides the names of one or two
of the oldest known ancestors in the line that carried the participant's
mitochondrial DNA or Y-Chromosome DNA. They may tell you where the oldest
ancestor lived.

When I use the smgf.org index, I get a family tree with all the ancestors'
names that the participants know in their first 5 to 7 generations. These
family trees give the birth dates and where the ancestors were born. As a
result, the family trees provide much more valuable information.

SMGF is no longer free. I believe Mr. Sorenson died and GeneTree bought
the SMFG program. They charge for their test.

I was not recommending that you use Gene Tree or any other program to have
your DNA tested. We have all received very good advice on which programs to
use, so we can make our own decisions on which program to use.
