hey...now days, usually our hardest part of taking a trip is deciding if we should stop at a Union 76 or Arco station for gas, and Denny's or McDonald's for food :)
At our Library, we try to put books online that give us a feel for the way of life as it was. We have several books, diaries, and journals about journeys, from the 1500s-1800s, mostly the early 1800s. One of my favourites is:
"The Prairie Traveler. A Hand-Book For Overland Expeditions", by Randolph B. Marcy, Captain U. S. Army. Published: By Authority Of The War Department, 1859. How to pack your wagon, what you'll encounter along the way, 28 detailed itineraries.
They're all free-access, text files, no ads, online the WebRoots.org Genealogy and History Library at http://www.webroots.org in our "Journeys" room...with lots more to come!
