Hi All

I am in Australia and have some Dunn's of Petersburg, Virginia in my family tree. My G G G grandparents were William Dunn and Catherine Millar they lived in Ardground, Nth Ireland and both died there by 1864. They had at least 10 sons and several daughters. Only 1 son remained in Ireland the rest went abroad.

My G G grandfather their son William Dunn 1819 - 1865 came to Australia abt 1841.

Several of his brothers settled in America also in 1840s I suspect. Petersburg, Virginia to be exact.

The one I know most about was Andrew Dunn 1822 - 1893. He was a Major to gen Longstreet and his aide de camp.

Andrew Dunn was buried along side his wife and two daughters at Blandford cemetery Petersburg.

Upon searching the Library of Virginia on line catalog I saw several entries concerning Andrew Dunn's family. There was one entry in 1868 concerning his two daughters graduating from their school.

Their names were: Mary Octavia Dunn b 20 Aug 1849 & Catherine Imogine Dunn b 6 Aug 1852.

I believe this is Andrew Dunn as he did have a partnership with a hardware shop in Petersburg after the war, would like copies, also it is possible Andrew Dunn may have run for Sherif at one point, can anyone confirm this?

Title New firm of Dunn and Adams.
Note Petersburg Index and Appeal (Petersburg, Va. : Daily) (Film 106).
Note October 21, 1874, page 3, column 2.
I also spotted several references to Dunn Hill a house was there at Petersburg on the trenches during the civil war. I believe the home belong to Andrew Dunn but I cannot prove it, can anyone shed any light on which Dunn owned that property? Does anyone have access to the records at Virginia Library and could possibly find me some copies?

Does anyone hold any genealogical or military data on Dr. James Dunn, could he be from Ireland, does he have parents William and Catherine Dunn?

I am interested in any Dunn living in Petersburg during civil war, I'd like to see if I can discover anymore brothers of Andrew Dunn CSA.

This entry in library catalog is of particular interest:

Can anyone tell me if this mentions of Dunn connect to Ireland? Since Ireland is mentioned I am hoping it does and would really like to have a transcription of the pages in that bible record if anyone can help please let me know.

Andrew Dunn had a son named David R Dunn born 1847. I suspect the below entry is him:

I'd really like to have any copies of anything relating to the above David R Dunn, I still have not found his date of death yet. Any help with further on David R Dunn appreciated.

William and Cathrine Dunn did have a son named Robert Dunn, could this be him?

Could any kind person find any Robert Dunn in Petersburg with parents William and Catherine?

Here is another one I need help to id his parents names:

Capt. Archie W. Dunn
Confederate Soldier
Born Nov. 19, 1830
Died Apr. 30, 1897

He is buried at Blandford cemetery in Petersburg very close by to Major Andrew Dunn CSA. Both were confederate soldiers as was Doctor James Dunn of Petersburg and I believe they were all related. So for James and Archie Dunn I need someone to confirm if their parents were the same as Andrew's and if they came from Ireland.

For Major Andrew Dunn CSA, Captain Archie Dunn CSA & Doctor James Dunn CSA can anyone provide me with their military history and any mentions of them in historical records or books would be really great to have either scans of the text or transcriptions of the text with source listed. Can anyone name any other CSA soldiers named Dunn who lived in Petersburg?

If anyone can help me get transcriptions of any of the mentioned above records in the Library of Virginia I would be very grateful.

Any info on Dunn of Petersburg connecting those Dunn's to NTH Ireland especially any Dunn in Petersburg is welcome. I am sure there is a lot of available data in Virginia on all of the above, so I really appreciate any help any info what so ever. Being in Australia I can't just walk in the library of Virginia myself or I'd like to spend hours searching the records but I am hopeful this message will find me some contacts in the area who can help.

I look forward to see many responses

Regards and thanks for reading

Duncan

PS I would like to have transcription of the wedding certificate of Andrew Dunn in Petersburg, he married a Mary Branch around 1846/7 I think. She was daughter of one David Henry Branch of Petersburg. Can anyone look this up?
