Don,

Don't know if there is any connection, but I have a Smith line in that area
during the same period:

Seth Smith b. 1 oct 1771 m Elizabeth Boley 18 Apr 1800 in Berkeley Co, VA
(now WV which is just NE of Frederick Co VA).

The only child that I have knowledge of is their son Austin Boley Smith b. 30
Jun 1806 in Jefferson County, VA (also now WV and NE of Frederick Co, VA).
He married Biddy Ann Fitzsimons who was b. 14 Jun 1814 in Frederick Co, VA.

Please let me know if you see any possible connection.
