Try this site. http://mason.gmu.edu/~d.mercy/Manumission.html

To read about Manumission at its most compassionate see George Washington's manumission of his slaves. To read about just the opposite see what history has to say about his wife Martha Dandridge Custis Washington. It's not a pretty tale that most history books leave out. Ann Dandridge, Martha's half-sister was her slave. Martha's son John Parke Custis had a child with his half aunt Ann Dandridge. On her death Martha did not free any of her slaves including her half-sister or her grandchild.
