To read about just the opposite see what history has to say about his wife Martha Dandridge Custis Washington. It's not a pretty tale that most history books leave out. Ann Dandridge, Martha's half-sister was her slave. Martha's son John Parke Custis had a child with his half aunt Ann Dandridge. On her death Martha did not free any of her slaves including her half-sister or her grandchild.
