Wes Pippenger and Jim Munson are pleased to announce the release of their
latest book in a series of newspaper transcripts and abstracts, this one
being the fifth in the series, and titled "The Virginia Gazette and
Alexandria Advertiser, Volume I (September 3, 1789 - November 11,
1790).  With this volume the newspaper has new editors, Messrs. Hanson and
Bond, and the format and content changes a bit.

Those of you who are familiar with the previous volumes in this series know
that the compilers present the newspaper in a format nearest to the
original that is practical.  The real plus is that every noun in the
transcripts and abstracts is indexed -- thus the index takes up as many
pages as the text.

One will find references to foreign news, what's going on with our own
government, significant changes in laws, merchant and captain's passing of
ships from port to port, arrival of goods into Potomac River, notices for
creditors to come forward, sale and rent of property (often described in
detail), new commodities available for sale and purchase, rewards for
return of runaway slaves, marriages and deaths, and on and on.
