My McClintock ancestors James and Eleanor Hamilton McClintock came to South
Carolina from County Antrim, Ireland in 1772. They were "covenanters"
following the Rev. William Martin . They came on the James and Mary and
landed in Charleston So Carolina on Sept. 18 1772. Five shiploads of
setters followed Rev. Martin. Land grants had been offered to these
settlers and as they had been overtaxed and persecuted in Ireland this
seemed a good opportunity. I would refer you to "Scotch-Irish Migration To
South Carolina, 1772, Jean Stephenson. I found Leydens book helpful and
fascinating also..
