No answer is possible, Lee Anne.   An "assignee" is simply one to whom some - any  - rights in some property or assets have been transferred - "assigned" by an "assignor".  Notice, however that, while we might assign rights in the usage of land, we seldom have "assigned" the land itself.  Rather, deeds, leases or contracts have been the legal devices employed for such transfers of interests.

  John Smith. Here's my question.

  Were assignees typically related to the person they were assignees of, or
  was it typical for that assignee to be anyone who made a bargain to get the
