James,

I sent you some more detailed information in a separate e-mail. But in case
others are researching the CARYs, here are the documents that I referenced:

1830 Southhampton Co. VA U.S. census, page 243
1850 Southampton Co. VA U.S. census shows George B. Cary, who was born in
VA, committing suicide at age 48 in Feb.
American Biographical Library - has something similar to what you put in
your e-mail
Encyclopedia of Virginia Biography - states essentially what you put in your
e-mail
Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia, Vol 2, pub. 1912 - information about
court records and papers of Augusta Co from 1745 - 1800
THE VALENTINE PAPERS, Vol. 1 - estate information for deceased Southampton
CARYs
Early Settlers of Alabama, Part II, Notes and Genealogies - Genealogy that
mentions him under Thomas Gholson
Virginia Genealogical Society Quarterly, Vol. XXIII, Number 4, 1 Nov. 1985,
"Genealogy From Classified Ads"
Some Prominent Virginia Families, Vol. II
Information about a Pvt. George B. Cary who mayor may not be a relation and
who served in the War of 1812

I hope this helps you in your quest.

Lee Anne

Subject: [VA-ROOTS] George Booth Cary

George Booth Cary, a Representative from Virginia; born at "Bonny Doon"
near Courtland, Southampton County, Virginia; 1811. Elected as a Democrat
to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4th,1841 - March 3,1843). Died in
Bethlehem, Va., March 5, 1850; burial at Bonny Doon.

I would like to find more information on George Cary but I'm not sure where
to look? A search of the Library of Virginia was not successful, maybe I'm
not looking in the right place. The library of Congress seems to have some
information but most is regarding legislation he was party to. It would
seem that some news papers would have information on his nomination or
obituary. Any suggestions?

Jim Cary
