Pat,
As someone who assisted Dr. Foster with the Jefferson-Hemings DNA I know
something of this complicated and useful science. Pat in all humor PICK
the most famous one, like some other families do ha, ha.....Just
kidding. NOW we are beginning to see how dangerous it is to just pick
the one you favor as the Hemings eventually did after a long belief that
oral family history indicated that Eston's family was from "a Jefferson
uncle" meaning TJ's brother, Randolph. When Fawn Brodie visited Eston
family members in NY she was able to persuade them to claim "famous"
Thomas, NOT a less than well known brother and they have pulled this on
the public ever since.
Not all Jefferson DNA is a match as shown by a New England Jefferson
tested. I also assisted National Geographic Magazine with their DNA
project which traced the Jefferson DNA back to people mentioned in the
bible, The Canaanites, and even further back. But as you know there MUST
be some genealogical history to go along with the science and Dr Foster
NEGLECTED to heed my CAUTION and did not "originally" inform Nature, the
media or Monticello of who he was testing, this is where the "train
wreck" began.

Subject: [VA-ROOTS] DNA
A male relative in my family had his DNA tested. As it turns out there
are 7
men who match him 25 out of 25 markers. This means they all related and
had a
common ancestor somewhere back in Virginia.
Now, the family that the paper trail leads to had 4 brothers. Can I just
pick
out the one that I want to be my ancestor and claim him or do I need
further
proof?
Seems to me that is exactly what they did in the Thomas Jefferson -
Hemings
case, they DECIDED Thomas Jefferson was the one even though it could
have been
someone else in that same family.

Genealogy without documentation is mythology.
