New Library of Virginia Research Fee Structure

        On October 1, 2001, the Library of Virginia will institute new
procedures and fees for research assistance. The changes are designed to
improve responsiveness to requests received and better reflect costs
involved in the research process.

        Over several months, staff examined the thousands of requests
received from Virginians and others throughout the Unites Stated and abroad
to identify the most frequently requested information from its collections.
New request forms and a new price structure were developed to simplify
requests and to provide information in a timely, cost-effective manner.
Copies of forms noting the new cost for services may be obtained by calling
the Library reference services telephone numbers (804-692-3777 or
804-692-3888) or downloaded from the Library's web site at
http://www.lva.lib.va.us and under "Services for the Public" find "Order
Copies."

        The revised procedures will reduce delays and avoid additional
billing for services.  In addition, over the next several months the
Library's web page will be redesigned to make information about its vast
resources and extensive services more readily available.  By the end of the
year, researchers will be able to submit and pay for requests on-line, by
fax, telephone, or by correspondence.  These changes permit the Library to
continue to provide an important service to Virginians and others.
