Does anyone on the list know who the William Lawson is? Eleazer Cole was
assignee of William Lawson when he got land in Montgomery Co. VA Nov. 8,
1797.

There may be no relationship between these two men's ancestry, but I'm
trying to determine if there is.

Does anyone on the list descend from a William Lawson who lived during this
time period?

No William Lawson is in the VA 1790 or 1800 census.

However, in 1790, there are William Lawsons as follows:

- two in Ploughkeepsie, Dutchess Co. NY -
- one in Easton, Bristol Co., MA
- one in Abbeville Co. SC
- one in Prince Georges Co. MD

By 1800, there are several more, but none in VA. They are in MA (1), ME (1),
MD(2), NY (2), NC (1), PA (1), and SC (4).
