The Library of Virginia is seeking an experienced Private Papers
Archivist to carry out the daily responsibilities that ensure the proper
identification, arrangement, description, and conservation of manuscript
and archival materials in all formats, with a special interest in
private papers architectural drawings, plans, and plats, using
acceptable professional standards and materials that ensure effective
use by the patrons of the Library of Virginia.

Job Qualifications

Masters degree in U.S. History, Library Science, or related field and
formal training in archives administration preferred. 
Experience as an archivist at an entry level preferred. 
Considerable knowledge of archival standards, theory, and practice. 
Considerable knowledge of archival automation and online cataloguing
using the MARC format. 
Considerable knowledge of Virginia state and local history. 
Working knowledge of standard archival conservation guidelines. 
Some knowledge of Virginia architecture and architectural history. 
Working knowledge of Encoded Archival Description. 
Demonstrated research skills. 
Demonstrated ability to analyze, arrange, and describe collections
accurately. 
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. 
Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of a team. 
Must pass a background check. 
  
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may
substitute for educational requirements.
