Brunswick County Freedmen's contracts, 1865-1868, have been added to Making History: Transcribe. These are employment contracts between formerly enslaved African Americans and their employers. Although generated by the Freedmen's Bureau, a few of these records remained in localities after the bureau's 1868 dissolution. Once transcribed, the Freedmen's contracts will be added to Virginia Untold, where they will complement the national Freedmen's Bureau records recently made available online.
