I am working with some early Virginia records and have two questions.
I would be most appreciative if anyone could answer the questions or
suggest some places where I might search for the answers.

In Lunenburg County, Virginia, Edward Morefield was appointed
constable in 1749 and John Morefield was appointed constable in 1753.
Were constables generally young men or was age immaterial? Was there
a minimum age?

In the 1784 Halifax County Personal Property Tax List, under the
entry for John Morefield, I find "Wright Morefield" listed as "living
with proprietor". At what age would a male be listed separately?
Should I infer that Wright was not John's son? In the other entries
that had other individuals isted as "living with proprietor", those
individuals almost always had the same surname as the head of
household. I did read the introduction to the book which has these
records transcribed, but found no explanation.

Thanks in advance for your help.
