I am sorry that I did not give a better explanation of why I use smgf.org. I only use smgf.org for research purposes. The Family Tree DNA search engines: YSearch.org or MitoSearch.org, do not provide a family tree for the participant. Their search results, usually provides the names of one or two of the oldest known ancestors in the line that carried the participant's mitochondrial DNA or Y-Chromosome DNA. They may tell you where the oldest ancestor lived.

When I use the smgf.org index, I get a family tree with all the ancestors' names that the participants know in their first 5 to 7 generations. These family trees give the birth dates and where the ancestors were born. As a result, the family trees provide much more valuable information.

SMGF is no longer free. I believe Mr. Sorenson died and GeneTree bought the SMFG program. They charge for their test.

I was not recommending that you use Gene Tree or any other program to have your DNA tested. We have all received very good advice on which programs to use, so we can make our own decisions on which program to use.
