One word of caution for those who are asked to give a Quit Claim
Deed in the present day. It would be to check out the property
in question, especially if they offer you a 'bit' of money to
sign it. For example, during WW11, my father-in-law, as well as
his two sons, were offered $100 each to sign Quit Claim Deeds to
a piece of property that my f-in-l said he THOUGHT it may have
been his grandfather's i a distant town. I had the description of
the property and via long distance phone calls, found out it was
right downtown, a choice piece of property. Guess what, ( Now
if his grandfather had any interest in that property it was
50 years before 1942! I upped the price to $500 for each of
them. There was no quibbling. I am sure I could of got $1,000
apiece. ( I was secretary to an Atty at the time but I did not
consult him...I had learned a great deal from him by that time.)
BTW, even after get ting the $500, they signed the usual
disclaimer quit claim.
