Everyone,

Please join author Peter Bridges at noon on Wednesday, 23 October 2002, at
the Library of Virginia in Historic Downtown Richmond, for a discussion of
Pen of Fire, his new biography of John Moncure Daniel.

As editor of the Richmond Examiner during the Civil War, Daniel became a
harsh critic of Jefferson Davis before dying in a duel, the last of several
that he fought, in April 1865, not yet forty years old.

Daniel had also been an effective American diplomat before the Civil War.
Peter Bridges, a career Foreign Officer and former U. S. ambassador to
Somalia, is well qualified to recount Daniel's short and fiery life.

This free event is sponsored by the Library of Virginia, the Virginia Center
for the Book, and the Library of Virginia Foundation.

Free parking for this event is available at the Library's underground
parking deck. Bring your lunch. Soft drinks will be provided.

For more information, please call the Library of Virginia at 804/692-3592.
