Hello to the list: I am aware of online and I suspect paper archives also that have two contemporary Robert Gentry groups slightly mixed up. These two men were in Fluvanna at same time and were almost the same age.
Robert T. GENTRY b: ca 1826 (Albemarle) This Robert T. Gentry is son of Robert T. Gentry and Mary Hudson WingfieldHis spouse Margaret S. Payne; daughter of Robert B. Payne and spouse Frances (Fanny) Anderson. This marriage is documented in Fluvanna. The Payne family is from Fluvanna.
Robert W. GENTRY b: ca 1827 (Virginia) was in Fluvanna with presumed wife Susan M. in 1860. 1870 census as Mary Susan/1900 as Susan M. Susan was born ca 1833 in Virginia
I have searched twice in the archival documents in the clerk's office in Fluvanna - searched through the old folded up bonds hoping there was a marriage that didn't get indexed...No luck!
The only female I see on 1850 census in Fluvanna who fits is an older sister to the wife of the other Robert Gentry...and she married a Hughes...so ruled her out...I have searched as best I can with online marriages but nothing yet is happening.
If anyone is working Gentry in Fluvanna/Albemarle/Louisa/Buckingham/etc....that might have a clue please contact me for more info on the descendants as I have most of the two families up into the early 1900s and some to mid 1900s. Happy HuntingAlice in Fluvanna
