Since this list came alive and I got all your attention lol

I am still here and still researching Lock - Locke of Virginia.

Surnames of interest: Lock(e), Shirlely, Avis, Rutherford, Keys,
Perry/Perrey?, Dixon

Richard Lock b. ca 1733 of Frederick and Berkeley County Virginia
We believe he had a brother named John Lock also of same counties.

Richard Lock had ties to Walter Shirley and family and to the Avis
family and to the Rutherford family and possibly to the Keys family.
all of Frederick and Berkeley.
I have been able to trace the Shirley and Avis family's back to
Calvert and St. Marys Counties Maryland, but I am still stuck tracing
Richard Lock. Maybe someone with some time could help me find clues as
to who Richard Lock's parents are :)
" Walter Shirely and the Avis men were listed on the 1733 Calvert
County MD tax list"

Richard Lock b. ca 1733 married Mary Fitgerald (Maiden name not
proven) Richard died 1775 in Berkeley County Va.
In the Estate Index for Richard Lock, it lists a John Lock as money
paid to from the estate, along with many others

Thomas Rutherford was the Guardian of Richard Lock when he was
younger.
There seems to be a close friendship or possibly a kinship to
the Shirley , Avis, Rutherford, Keys familys with my Richard Lock, but
if they are related I have not been able to figure it out as of yet.
I say a possible kinship because the same names seem to be around
Richard Lock in several various records I have seen.

This is the only clue I have that may tell me who Richard Lock's father
was.

This Will names a son Richard Lock, but I do not know if this is my
Richard Lock b. ca 1733

This has been a mystery to my family for a ton of years and we have
not been able to trace our family any further back then Richard Lock.
I should note that there were a couple of other Lock's of Frederick and
Berkeley County that we believe to be related and they too came from
St. Mary's County Maryland, but we have not been able to connect them
either.

Here are some various clues I have to date, they may or may not be my
Richard Lock

A List of Soldiers under the Command of Captain Robert Sollers, This
1st day
of October 1748 at St. Leonard Town, (St. Mary's Co. MD)
p. 21 Lower Hundred of the Clifts
#12 Benjamin Dixon (witness to Richard SR. probate) also Garrot, Ellis,
Joshua and Hugh Dixon,
p. 21,22 Sergeant Richard Day
#16 William Perrey ( is he husband of Mary Lock?)
#17 Richard Lock.
( This clue clearly links Richard Lock who died in Calvert County
Maryland to Richard Lock in this record in St. Marys County Maryland)

[The] Smallwood Family of Charles County,
by Arthur L. Keith,
from Vol. XXII (1927), 139-186 325-372

Individual # 39 on pages 359 & 360

"George Smallwood (son of John who died in 1770) has unimportant
mention in the Court Proceedings of Charles County in Aug. 1756 and
Nov. 1757. He is undoubtedly identical with George Smallwood who
bought land of James Loyd in Frederick County, Virginia on Sept. 3,
1764 (Winchester, Lib. 9, fol. 371). In this county on Aug. 2, 1769
the court ordered Stephen Cawood (he was the son of John Cawood who
married Elizabeth Smallwood) to pay 200 pounds of tobacco to George
Smallwood for his service as a witness; and on Oct. 6, 1772 George
Smallwood was a witness in the same county in the case of John Keywood
(either father or brother of the above Stephen Cawood) vs. Ulrick
Spoar. George Smallwood lived in that part of Frederick County which
was set off into Berkeley County. In this later County he was one of
the apprs [appraisers?] of the estate of Rich'd Locke, Sept. 11, 1775,
of Robert Tabb, May 21, 1776, and of John Goddart, Nov. 1777. In the
same county on Mch.18, 1797 George Smallwood bought land of George Hite
and wife Deborah (which land formerly belonged to Dr. John Briscoe and
had been willed by him to his son Hezekiah Briscoe) (Martinsburg, Lib.
13, fol. 333). On May 18, 1801 George Smallwood bought land of John
Potts and Elizabeth, his wife, and of William Hall and Miriam, his wife
(Martinsburgh, Lib. 18, fol. 195 and 198). Both deeds were delivered
to Gabriel Smallwood (probably son of George)."

(I have not seen this will, so I do not know what it contains)

It's an interesting mystery to say the least. I know I am missing a
piece of this puzzle but darned if I can find it!
Thanks for any help or suggestions ;)
