I was responding to the biblical reference made by "Clay Gullatt", not Virginia law. I have no argument with what you've been saying about that. As far as I know, Utah's the only place bigamy has ever been legal in the U.S. Sorry I wasn't clearer. Seem to have developed a bad case of laziness.

And, if I recall, this is without regard to whether or not the man is
already married. He can marry his brother's widow as a 2nd or even 3rd wife.
The reason for this edict was to further the brother's downline, not that of
the "stand-in" spouse (brother of the deceased).
