The first permanient settment of which is recorded
was made in what is now Logan Co, WVA, came
in 1799. These were soldiers that fought in the
War of Revolution and came with William Dinguess,
a son of Peter Dinguess. My g,g,grandfather
John Dempsey came with him. He married Rachel
Solomon in 1799 in Botetourt Co, VA.

Logan Co was in Virginia at that time. All of the
people searching for their roots in Logan CO, WVA
need to find them in Virginia. I have to start in Ky
where John's son Mark Dempsey settled, then on
to : WVA. VA, PA and Ireland. John's father
William Dempsey Sr came from Ireland circa 1730.
So in doing genealogy many states are involved
and we need to share our info in different states.
I finally visited Ireland where the Dempseys came
from. I have found out that the more I share, the
more I learn.

I want to thank Mr Russell L. Lawrence for
listing the marriage record of my John Dempsey
and Rachel Solomon. I had a short marriage record
from the Library of Richmond, VA but he gave
more details. Genealogy would be hard to find,
if people like Mr. Lawrence did not take the time
to put this on the web for all to see.
Best Regards,
Virginia Lee Urban
