" Most of the land was acquired by the State of Virginia prior to the 1930 drought..."

I know the details of the 216 acres at Fisher's Gap near Big Meadows in the Shenandoah National Park.
Stephen Fisher acquired the land on 4 Aug 1778 through a Northern Neck Land Grant. Prior to the Park, the same 216 acres
was purchased through a deed by Isaac N. Long, John E. Koontz and A. J. Huffman on 25 July 1894.

On 8 July 1931 Isaac Long's 216 acres were sold to the Virginia State Commission on Conservation and subsequently deeded to the National Park Service.
Details of all land purchases for the Shenandoah National Park may be found in:

Reed L. Engle and Caroline Janney, "A Database of Shenandoah National Park Land Records"
( Shenandoah National Park, National Park Service, U.S. Dept. of the Interior, 1997)
