William Fitzhugh (1651-1701), the Immigrant of Stafford Co., VA was a very wealthy man when he died.
His will, made in 1700 disposes of 58 pieces of massive silver table service, besides spoons--including 19 plates, 3 bread plates, 8 dishes, a set of castors, a "Monteith", 7 candlesticks, 2 pair of candle snuffers, with stands and a chocolate pot, and it is believed that he had already given many pieces to his children.

Now what the heck was a Monteith?

Thanks,
Charleen
