Alexandria, Virginia was a center for newspaper publishing -- having nearly
two dozen titles that were printed for various periods between the years
1784 and 1853. Mr. Wesley E. Pippenger has compiled verbatim transcripts
of all marriage and death notices in Marriage and Death Notices from
Alexandria, Virginia Newspapers, Volume 1: 1784-1838, and Volume 2,
1838-1852. It is a 2-volume set, cloth binding, comprised of nearly 1,300
pages of data and a comprensive index for notices from 20 different
newspapers that were published in Alexandria during the period. Notices
cover events that occurred up and down the eastern seaboard, and frequently
include events in Richmond, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York. The set
sells for $100.00 postpaid. Copies may be obtained from the compiler at
Wesley E. Pippenger, 2909-A S. Woodstock St., Arlington VA 22206.
