Katie,

In the 1850 census for Petersburg, VA, family # 492, pg 173 of 221, there is a Nathan Vincent, age 70, shoemaker, and wife Amy, age 50, living with James Vincent, 25, and Susan Vincent, 18. Also with them are Mary Lockwood, 24 and Francis Lockwood, 6. (I did not find Nathan after 1850.)

In the 1850 census for Petersburg, VA, family #620, pg 620 of 221, there is a Charles C Vincen, 26, tinner, living with wife Tabitha Vincen, 22, Hester, 4 and Vgene, 2. Also in same house is John Hamblin, 21, tinner. (I suspect the name was misspelled)

In the 1860 census for Petersburg, Va there is a Chas C Vincent, 38, tin copper smith, living with wife Patitha A Vincent, 32, with daughter Hester A, 13; daughter Eugenia, 11; daughter Mary C, 8; son Theodore, 6; son William, 4; son George W, 8/12. Also living in same household are Mary L Vincent, 21; George S Adkins, 24, tin copper smith; and Wm A. Graves, 24, clerk.

In the 1870 census for Petersburg, Va, there is a Chas C Vincent, 49, tin and copper smith, living with wife Tibertha A, 40, with Easter, 21, William C, 14, Elizabeth, 8, Roberta, 4, and Rosa D, 1. Also in same house are William E Vincent, 20, Charles E Vincent, 19, listed as tinner apprentices, and black house servant Malissy Green, 45, Michael Green, 10 and Dora Green, 8. The value of Chas C personal estate is listed as $4,000.

In the 1880 census for Petersburg, Dinwiddie, VA there is a C. C. Vincent, age 57, b. 1823, white male, tin smith, living in with wife T. A. Vincent, age 45. Also living with them are Wellie C, 24; Elizabeth, 16; Bertie, 13; Rosa, 11; Minnie, 8. Also living in same house are Emmet Vincent, 27; W. J. Terry, 43, and Annie Terry, 5.

I found nothing to say that Nathan Vincent and Charles C Vincent are related to each other but they did live at the same time in Petersburg, VA.

I found nothing on Richard Nunan.

Hope this helps you,
Jerry Lusk
Richmond, VA

Subject: [VA-ROOTS] NUNAN & VINCENT death info 1890s Norfolk (city)

Is there an online Death Index available anywhere for Virginia? I have two 1890s deaths that I really need to check, in order to find some slim possibility of a listing of parents:

  Richard W. Nunan Jr
  DOD Mar 1, 1893
hit by a train (I have the brief obit)
living in the household of his sister, Ellen Maria Mehegan
  14 Reservoir Norfolk
I do know that his father was Richard Sr but the mother is always listed as just Maria (and died early on probably before 1850 and probably in Baltimore)

died, according to the Obit I have, on June 13, 1897
  Charles Clement Vincent
  DOD June 13, 1897
while at the Brambleton home of his daughter, Mrs JE Davis
I know zero about his parents only suspicions that it was Amy Duggar and Nathan Vincent of Petersburg
