Hi, Sarah.
Try Bedford County, Virginia. It's a guess. My ancestor Jeremiah Dawson (b.
1763) was originally from Bedford County. Was awarded land in Kentucky as
pay for military service in the Revolutionary War. One of his descendants
married Zachariah Green & Mary Buckner Mumford's son, William Arthur.
I know that the Dawsons were friends with the Greens, Mumfords and Buckners
in Hart County. What if they all came from the same part of Virginia, though
at different times? It's an idea, anyway.
A famous Buckner:

My father's great-aunt (a Dawson) used to sit for him when he was a baby in
Munfordville.
Best,
SJ
