A reproduction of a French copy of the Fry and Jefferson map may be purchased from Historic Urban Plans for $10.00.  It isn't huge -- 15 1/4 inches by 20 1/4 inches -- but it is readable (I used it for the same purpose you contemplate).  And for that price I wouldn't be shy about making notes on it.
