In addition to the others sites that Brian mentioned below, Fairfax also
uses Twitter primarily for news releases.

Fairfax County has a presence on Facebook, MySpace and Youtube. The news
release can be seen at: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/news/2008/126.htm

In addition the Police Department uses these sites regularly in
investigations (its surprising what some people will post online).

Our purchasing Department posts selected surplus items for sale on
Craigslist, although the actual auctions are on PublicSurplus.com.

Our IT department blocks social networking from our internal network,
however will make exceptions for individual users who can make a
business case for access.

Subject: Social Networking Sites

Good morning listserv members,

I'd like to start a thread about the use of social networking sites
(Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc.) in state and local government. Is
your organization using one or more of these sites? If so, what are you
using it for?

Thank you,
Siri Berdahl
