Greetings,

As we continue our observance of Records Management month in the commonwealth, Records Analysis Services is making available another opportunity for training and development. In our on-going effort to help state and local agencies prepare for, and recover from, emergency situations that impact public records, we have offered seminars, workshops, and, most recently, Webinars that provided instruction on how to identify records most critical to business needs, how to prepare for potential adverse events, and how to plan a recovery from an event.

The Webinar we offered, "Intergovernmental Preparedness for Essential Records," was developed by the Council of State Archivists (CoSA). The program, consisting of two courses on "Essential Records" and "Records Emergency Planning and Response," was twice delivered via a live platform. A generic version of the two courses, also developed by CoSA, is now available for down load on our Website. This platform will provide the same type of information as the live version. There are assignments that will help get the plans started, and your assigned Records Analyst will be glad to review those with you, to make sure you're on the right track.

The Webpage containing the course work is found by going to the Records Management homepage, and clicking on "Services," "Training and education," and then "IPER" under the heading "Intergovernmental Preparedness for Essential Records." The page, along with the guidance at the top, may be accessed directly at http://www.lva.virginia.gov/agencies/records/webinars/

We believe this tool will be beneficial for all who utilize it. If you do not already have a records emergency plan in place, please remember that it is a requirement under the Virginia Public Records Act, and it's just a darn good idea anyway.

If you have any questions about it, please contact your assigned Records Analyst:

Thank you,

Glenn Smith
