University Records Officer  

Education: 
Requires an advanced degree in a relevant field (MLS/MLIS/MIS, MPA or
J.D.), coursework in records management or Certified Records Manager
(CRM), and professional experience in records management. 

Qualifications: 
Prior experience planning, building and implementing programs to
effectively manage electronically stored information strongly preferred.


Strong analytical, conceptual thinking, organizational and
prioritization skills required. 

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication; ability to
lead via influence and work with all academic levels, including
administrators, faculty, staff and students required. 

Experience in a university setting or an agency working under the
Virginia Public Records Act is strongly preferred. 

Experience that demonstrates superior leadership, knowledge and
understanding of physical and electronic records theory and standards;
relevant statutes and administrative rules; and technologies that enable
effective records management required.   

UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA RECORDS OFFICER 

The University of Virginia is seeking a professional Records Officer.
This is a unique opportunity to create, implement and manage a
comprehensive, University-wide program addressing appropriate retention
and disposition of physical and digital records for both legal and
business purposes. The program will include support of unit level
records coordinators, and development and delivery of educational
programs. The Records Officer will report to the Director of Security
and Policy in the VP/CIO's office and will work in collaboration with
academic, administrative, Medical Center, and other departments
throughout the University in the planning and implementation of the
program.

Responsibilities: 
Establish the University of Virginia's Records Management Office,
including resource and budgetary requirements. 

Assess the University records storage and secure destruction needs;
develop and implement a plan to address them. 

Assess appropriate use of electronic records management and current
secure storage/destruction processes and begin implementation of
appropriate e-storage programs. 

Develop a comprehensive plan for University records management for both
hard copy and electronic data. 

Develop a University-specific records schedule approved by the Library
of Virginia. 

Represent the University to the Library of Virginia Records Management
staff. 

Interact with University departments to communicate responsibilities and
educational opportunities.
