Clarence,I believe that these images would simply be considered copies
and can be disposed of accordingly. The problem is that the information
can remain on the hard drives when the copy machine is surplused or
moved and could be accessed by someone not authorized to see or have the
information.  Just overwriting them every so often is not always
successful.  The drives should be purged or "cleaned" when retired,
moved, or surplused to ensure that any confidential data that was
scanned on them is destroyed.
Fairfax IT is working with the copier vendors to be certain that the
drives are "cleaned" for both the county and the school system.

Another risk is records retention for these images. Does anyone have
policies or procedures for that?
