In 1832, veterans applied to the justices of the peace of Prince Edward
County seeking to obtain pensions for their time spent serving during
the Revolutionary War. These applicants provided detailed testimony
about their time of service and included information about military
companies and their fellow soldiers. Some applicants even include
anecdotes like the one told by William Scott about a group of soldiers
playing a prank on their superior officer who became "so enraged at the
tricks... that he rode off without regularly discharging the troops."
Check out today's blog for a sampling from this collection.
