Hopeless without your microwave? Imagine living in the 18th or 19th century and having to cook from scratch! A symposium on March 28, 2008 from 9 am to 3:30 pm at George Mason University Department of History will help you imagine doing so. The American Social History and Material Culture Symposium is sponsored by the Fairfax County Park Authority and GMU Dept. of History. The program is titled, "All Manner of Useful Goods: Household Necessities and Craftsmanship in Early America." Explore a host of hand crafted materials and objects that were well known to Americans of an earlier era from 1750 to 1850. There will be presentations including a costumed interpretation, as well as other exhibits to help you imagine even further. Advanced registration is required by March 21, 2008 at a cost of $65 per person. For more information and registration send an email to [log in to unmask] or call (703) 631-1429.
