Hello all:

I am researching sutler tokens from Virginia and in particular the issues of
the 2nd Regiment Virginia Cavalry, however, I am unable to determine
conclusively if they are from the regiment organized in VA or in WV. Most
sutler tokens were issued in the early part of the war (prior to 1863),
which makes determining the correct regiment that much more difficult.
However, since most VA sutler tokens (to inlcude those of the 2nd VA Cav.)
were made by a diesinker in Cincinnati, I am leaning towards an attribution
to the unit organized in WV. In addition, metal sutler tokens appear to be
the province of Union regiments, however, one cannot rule out the
possibility of a CS regiment having them. I have tried to research other
known VA sutlers and have not been able to come up with any useful lists.

If anyone has any ideas as to if the WV 2nd Cavalry Regiment had a different
name prior to WV separating, or a possible source of the sutlers associated
to specific VA and WV units, I would most appreciative.

Thanks!
Eric Schena
