I am wondering if anyone has information concerning who Thomas Rutherfoord (1766-1852) purchased his property from, especially the land that lies in the North Church Hill area - just south of the Fairmount neighborhood?

Even on an 1877 map, it shows his name in that area with 144 acres? I suspect that was what he owned before his death but not sure why it would still be listed on a map of a developed area 20+ years after his death?

All I know is that he was a major landowner and a repeated reference that he purchased a lot of land after the War of 1812 but he also had land before that. And, he had either a son or grandson named John Coles Rutherfoord - which there was a major landowner named John Coles at the time William Byrd set up the Richmond City tracts and streets. Could that be a hint?

Any help would be appreciated.

Eric
