Oh, c'mon folks. A recent off-topic political posting was made about stodgy
conservative Repuplicans, the present field of candidates in particular,
lacking a sense of humor and their being at the center of many problems.
The posting seemed to be of serious intent but its wording made it humorous
and no corrective action was taken. Likewise, no corrective action was
taken last month near Veterans' Day when a serious liberal political rant
against the global war on terrorism was made -- this was also ignored
without comment. Further, it is not uncommon to see anti-conservative
remarks casually made at this list. This is understandable at a forum that
includes a high proportion of academics but that does not make it right.
A quite obviously humorous political posting was made yesterday against
liberal beliefs -- it included no character impugning or personal insult
IMHO; again it was _a very obvious joke_ (granted, it was inappropriate and
maybe only funny to those being conservative bent.) I don't understand why
anyone took time to respond. In this case, our List administrator and
others jumped all over the posting and its author, while it seems certain
that had a pro-liberal political posting or remark been made it would have
yet again passed by without comment.
With all due respect, if corrective action is to be taken at this list I
believe it should focus on eliminating 'all' political jokes, slurs and
comments, liberal and conservative alike.
