Dear Craig Kilby: The incident you refer to can be found in Ralph T.
Whitelaw, Virginia's Eastern Shore: A History of Northampton and Accomac
Counties ( 2 Vols.,Peter Smith, Gloucester Mass. Reprinted By the
Virginia Historical Society, 1951 and 1968). I. p. 111. The author calls
it a tradional tale about John Custis IV and his wife Frances Parke
Custis, but froma previous response you already know that. Best, Emory
Evans
