We have all noticed in recent weeks and months occasional delays in the
distribution of messages to the discussion lists. This will almost
certainly continue.

I have been informed that the server at the Library of Virginia that
receives and sends out the messages for these and our other discussion
lists is in need of replacement. In this time of tight budgets, we do
not know when it will be possible to replace the server with a new one. 

Please be patient, but do not hesitate to alert me if you believe that
something has gone wrong with your subscription or if you suspect that
the server has seen its shadow and gone back to sleep.

(Perhaps economists should classify computer equipment with the
perishables rather than with the durable goods because they do not last
as long as automobiles or refrigerators or typewriters.)
