My thanks to Kevin Hardwick at JMU for an off-list message remembering Emory G. Evans's "Executive Leadership in Virginia, 1776-1781: Henry, Jefferson, Nelson," in Ronald Hoffman and Peter J. Albert, SOVEREIGN STATES IN AN AGE OF UNCERTAINTY (Charlottesville: University Press of Virginia, 1981), pp. 185-224? And ("had it been a snake....") talk about a senior moment, I had convinced myself it was dark blue (Emory's book on the Nelson is) and so I didn't even look at the copy of Hoffman and Albert that is sitting 4 feet from my keyboard - open to Stephen Patterson's essay on the roots of New England Federalism. Again thanks.
