Tories! Loyalists! King’s Men! and New York City!

Come hear Ruma Chopra tell their story at the next meeting of the American Revolution Round Table of Richmond on Wednesday, March 20, in the Heilman Dining Center at the University of Richmond. Prof. Chopra will speak on “Unnatural Rebellion: Loyalists in New York City During the Revolution,” from her book of the same title. We gather for dinner at 5:30, with the meeting starting at 6:30. Details are at http://arrt-richmond.blogspot.com/p/2013-meeting-schedule.html, and maps are at http://www.richmond.edu/visit/. Please join us and bring a friend.

Two great Revolutionary War conferences are fast approaching. The first is the America’s History 2nd Annual Conference on the American Revolution in Williamsburg next weekend. Details are at http://americashistoryllc.com/2013/01/2nd-annual-conference-on-the-american-revolution-march-22-24-2013/. Last year’s conference was excellent, and this year’s promises more of the same.

Similarly, the Southern Campaigns of the American Revolution (SCAR) is offering a weekend of presentations and tours on The Life and Times of Henry “Light Horse Harry” Lee. Details for Wedded to My Sword are at http://www.southerncampaign.org/. SCAR is known for its superior seminars. Please join them in Greensboro, NC on April 26 –28. Both agendas feature outstanding speakers.

In 2010, the truly unique The Last Muster: Images of the Revolutionary War Generation by Maureen Taylor was released. There will soon be a second volume. The information below spells out the effort to produce a film based on the topic and book.

As some of you may know, Maureen Taylor, the “Photo Detective” is partnering with award-winning historical documentary producers Verissima Productions, of Cambridge, MA, to create a film that will offer a fresh perspective on the American Revolution. Maureen has spent the past ten years discovering and authenticating 200 photographs of individuals who lived during the Revolutionary War…and now we’re putting their stories into a film. Our goal is to use these photos to create an experience that will reveal the people, places, and passionately held beliefs of these early patriots.

As much as our nation has changed in the two centuries since the Revolutionary War, the spirit and principles on which our country was founded still make up the largest part of our shared identity. Perfect for students, teachers or anyone who will enjoy a deeper look into this critical period in our history, our film will make it possible to witness the daily struggles and hard-won successes of this first American generation.

Producing and distributing “Revolutionary Voices” will require a total budget of $225,000. Pre-production is already in progress, and we plan to start shooting in late April. On February 27, we launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise the $27,500 needed for this initial phase. So far we have raised nearly $8,000 with almost 120 backers! Kickstarter is an “all or nothing” platform, so we need to raise our entire goal by April 10, 2013.

Your pledge to this campaign will help shine a new light on this on this vital chapter of our American experience. To donate please click here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lastmusterfilm/revolutionary-voices-a-last-muster-film. We will also be grateful to have you share our project with anyone you know who might be interested by forwarding this e-mail and posting our link on your social media outlets. For those of you who are industry leaders and connectors we have attached an online media kit if you would like to help us expand the knowledge and outreach of the project. To see the images and learn more about the film, you can visit http://www.lastmusterfilm.com/.

Sincerely,

Maureen Taylor

&

Pam Pacelli & Rob Cooper (Verissima Productions)

I hope to see you at next week’s meeting.
