Basil,

I suspect you will find it in older history books. It is also a theme in a 
lot of literature especially the sort that women read lying on the beach on 
a hot summer day! The British did not have much respect for the Irish, even 
the nobility among the Irish. The purpose of bringing the Irish under the 
heel of the British was to use them as servants and laborers.
