A better treatment is Charles Adams "When In The Course of Human Events"  
(Roman & Littlefield 2000).
 
For those who think this issue was resolved in the War of Northern  Invasion, 
the fact is that the Supreme Court has yet to be heard on the issue  (the 
main reason that neither Jeff Davis nor anyone else were tried for treason  after 
the War) and with the influx of our neighbors from south of the Rio  Grande, 
secession may become an issue for the 21st Century.
