Working where I do, I found this item from the will of William Cabell
(1730-1798), of Amherst County, of interest:

. . . All my books I desire may remain with my beloved wife during her life
& after her death with my eldest sons for the common use of all my Sons, who
if they preserve that harmony & brotherly affection to each other which I
wish and entreat them to cultivate, may take out of the Library, read &
return books from time to time & by saving the expense of each of them
purchasing the same books, may be enabled to add other good books to their
common Library aforesaid. . . .
Will of William Cabell, of Amherst County, dated 7 October 1795 and proved
18 June 1798. Amherst County Will Book 3 (1786-1800), 466-470, at 469.
