There is a book written about Mary Ingles and her trip home along the New
River after being captured by Indians.  I think it is "Long Way Home" but I am
not sure.  Does anyone else know it and the author's name?  It is a great read
if you like historical novels
The long journey home: the true story of Mary Draper Ingles, early pioneer of
the Virginia Colony, by Leslie Grady Wade

Joan, this story is one of several threads interwoven in Sharyn McCrumb's
"She Walks These Hills" and is the same story that is retold in an outdoor drama
(annually?) at VPI/Virginia Tech.
