National Park Service Seeks Input on Green Spring Plans

The Draft General Management Plan Amendment/Environmental Impact Statement
(GMPA/EIS) for the Green Spring unit of Colonial National Historical Park
is now available for review and comment. This document has been developed
to identify and assess various management alternatives and related
environmental impacts for park operations, visitor use and access, natural
and cultural resource management, and general development at Green Spring.
The plan amends the parkwide 1993 General Management Plan for Colonial
National Historical Park. Following public consideration of this draft, one
of the alternatives or a modified alternative will be presented in a Final
GMPA/EIS. The final plan will guide park management at Green Spring for the
next 15 years.

Public participation and input is very important to ensuring that a
meaningful and reasonable approach is crafted for managing this national
park. Public comments will be accepted through July 11, 2001. Comments
should be directed in writing to the Superintendent, Colonial National
Historical Park, Post Office Box 210, Yorktown, Virginia 23690. Comments
may be submitted electronically to [log in to unmask] Please also include
"Attn: Green Spring Comments" and your name and return address in your
Internet message. If you do not receive a confirmation from the system that
we have received your Internet message, contact us directly at the phone
number below.

The practice of the National Park Service is to make comments, including
names and home addresses of respondents, available for public review during
regular business hours. Individual respondents may request that to have
their home address withheld from the record, which will be honored to the
extent allowable by law. There also may be circumstances in which a
respondent's identify is withheld from the record, as allowable by law. If
you wish to have your name and/or address withheld, you must state this
prominently at the beginning of your comment. However, the National Park
Service will not consider anonymous comments. All submissions from
organizations or businesses, and from individuals identifying themselves as
representatives or officials of organizations or businesses, will be made
available for public inspection in their entirety.

For further information or to receive a copy of the document, please
contact the Superintendent, Colonial National Historical Park at the above
address or call (757) 898-3400.
